Why verify a licence?
A familiar name is not enough. Before placing a large deposit, taking a loan or starting a long-term financial relationship, verify the institution against the regulator’s official list.
How to check
Nepal Rastra Bank publishes updated lists of licensed banks and financial institutions. Match the institution’s legal name, class and the date of the list. Do not treat a social-media post or advertisement as proof of licensing.
Check more than the name
Confirm the official website, branch contact details, written account or loan terms and fees. It is safer to obtain contact information from the regulator or the institution’s verified official channels.
Lists change
Licensing status, mergers and institutional details can change. Check the latest NRB list on the day you make a decision rather than relying on the publication date of this article.
If something looks suspicious
